BPG-700

INTRODUCTION

BPG-700 is two component systems consisting of a base compound of LP polymer and accelerator containing a chemical curing agent. The material cures after mixing to form a strong rubber-like substance, which is highly elastic, flexible and has outstanding resistance to weathering. It has excellent adhesion to common building materials like concrete, brick, wood, glass, aluminium & steel. It is far superior to the entire conventional joint sealing materials like bitumen, aluminium channels, brass channels and expansion sheets.

Pouring grade is used for horizontal joints & gun grade for vertical/horizontal joints.

Application Area

Because of their ability to extend and recover many times without losing the bond, and their resistance to water, salts, oils, solvents and other chemicals, BPG-700 is extensively used for the following applications: –
  • (a) Joints in water-retaining structures such as reservoirs, dams, canals, culverts and water treatment works.
  • (b) Joints in traffic surfaces such as bridges, roads, car parks.
  • (c) Joints in building structures: –
    • (1) Joint in basements, subways and retaining walls.
    • (2) Joints in roofs of sheet metal ACC Sheet and concrete.
    • (3) Joints in external walls and cladding especially on high rise buildings and places where premature failure and frequent maintenance is to be avoided.
    • (4) Joints in glazing frames and windows and in curtain walls.
    • (5) Joints in floors where high movement, load displacement and chemical resistance is required.
    • (6) Joints in coiling, especially structural expansion joints running through the ceiling.

Advantages

BPG-700 Sealants cure by chemical reaction at ambient temperature to form an elastomeric rubber in joints. The properties that make these sealants suitable for a wide range of applications are their resistance to weathering, ozone, flexibility at both high and low temperatures and inertness to a wide range of chemicals including solvents and fuels.

Chemical Resistance

BPG-700 Sealants have excellent resistance to oils, solvents, mild acids, milk alkalies and most common chemicals.

Storage Stability

BPG-700 Sealant can be stored in their original un-opened containers for 12 months from the date of manufacture.

Application Of BPG-700

Surface Preparation The joint surface must be completely dry and free from dirt, rust, dust, loose particles, protective laequer oil, grease etc. Priming For all porous surface like concrete and wood apply one coat of Primer (P) while for non-porous surfaces like metal, glass etc., apply one coat of Primer (NP).

Back-Up Materials

Insert any expansion joint filler material such as expanded polysterne (thermocole) compressible filler board, cork board into the joint to adjust depth of the seal. This should be done after the application of the primer.

BPG-700 Sealant Application

After the application of the primer, mix the base and accelerator of the sealant thoroughly. Mixing should continue till a uniform grey colour is obtained. A shade of even grey colour without white or dark specks indicates proper mixing. Mixing can be manually or by using a flat stirrer attached to a slow speed electric drill.

Pouring Grade

After mixing the two components, the mix is suitable for pouring directly from the container into the joints. This grade of sealant levels itself to form a smooth and clean surface.

Gun Grade

The mixed compound may be applied by means of a spatula, putty knife or a hand-held caulking gun for vertical or horizontal joints.

Finishing

Fill the joint completely with the sealant and applied by pressing the spatula or a similar object firmly against the sealant surface, moving along the length of the joint. The operation helps to remove air bubbles and places the sealant firmly in the joint. The outermost surface of the sealant present a slightly concave surface in profile.

Cleaning

Clean all equipment with suitable solvents like Toluene, Xylene or Thinner.

Width Depth Ratio

To achieve optimum performances, width to depth ratio should be maintained at 2:1 or W = 2D.

Masking Tape

If required, the joint edges can be protected by a masking tape to prevent those areas from being spoiled by sealant due to overfilling. This also ensures clean uniform sealant application. The tape should be removed immediately after the application of the sealant.

Packing

It is packed in 4 Kg. Tin.
